H-alpha CCD Images with Atik ATK16
The images below were all shot from my suburban backyard in Livermore Ca.  After spending a little over a year imaging with the Atik 2HS modified web cam I finally moved up to a simple peltier cooled CCD camera.  Though the increase in chip size is minimal, 1/3" up to 1/2", the gain in resolution and overall image quality is several fold.  The ATK16 is also far more sensitive than the smaller camera and able to do 20 and 30 minute sub frame exposures with fewer image artifacts and no amp-glow.  My first image with the ATK16 was of the 'Horse Head Nebula' with the Orion ED80 @ f/6 - see photo - not too bad for right out of the box.

NGC 2264 'Cone Nebula' --  7 x 20 min subframes, 12cm achromat @ f/4, 0.8x FR, 9nm Ha, manually guided, no darks or flats.
M27 'Dumbbell Nebula' -- 4 x 20 min. + 10 min., 12cm achromat @ f/4, Televue 0.8x reducer, Schuler 9nm H-alpha filter, manually guided, no darks or flats.
M76 'Little Dumbbell Nebula' -- 4 x 20 min., 12cm achromat @ f/4, 0.8x focal reducer, Schuler 9nm Ha, manually guided.  No darks or flats.
NGC 281 -- 5 x 20 min., 12cm achromat @ f/4, 0.8x focal reducer, 9nm Ha, manually guided, dark frames subtracted, no flats.
M57 'Ring Nebula' -- 6 x 20 min., 12cm achromat @ f/4, 0.8x focal reducer, 9nm Ha, manually guided, dark frames subtracted, no flats.
