 HIGH
RESOLUTION PLANETARY VIDEO IMAGING
In the fall of 1999 I obtained a Supercircuits
PC-23C video surveillance camera and began the process of learning high
resolution planetary astrophotography. Early efforts, like that of
Saturn at left, were promising but far from exciting when compared to planetary
images found elsewhere on the web. In the months that followed I
learned from my errors and from others in the VIDEOASTRO E-mail discussion
group, and my images improved. Acquiring an Astrovid 2000 further
improved my images to the point where I am now. I have also experimented
with other video surveillance cameras such as the color version of the
PC-23C, the PC-33C and with a new, more sensitive version of the PC-23C,
the amazing PC-164C. Below you will find images of each of the planets
out to Saturn made with each of the mentioned cameras. With few exceptions,
all images were captured from video recorded to Hi8, digitized with a Snappy
frame grabber and processed in Adobe Photo Shop. |
